Paint Zoom Review: What You Need to Know Before You Buy

If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you already know the savings of doing the painting yourself, but you know the time and tedium involved too. If you don’t want the high price tag of a professional painter, or are tired of messy, inefficient rollers and brushes, we’ve found a product that looks very promising – Paint Zoom™.

Professional painters know that spray painting gives the best results with the least amount of effort. That is why they always prefer to spray paint rather than use rollers and brushes whenever they can. Now, with Paint Zoom it appears that you can get professional-looking results fast and easy too.

Is It Really a Better Paint Sprayer?

If spray painting is easy, picking the best paint sprayer isn’t! When you start researching paint sprayers, you will find they range in price from really cheap spray guns (around $40) to extremely pricy machines (up to $800 and more).

Unless you are a mechanic or an engineer, you well might find yourself confused by all the different jargon used when describing spray painters: LVLP, HVLP, airless, twin stroke piston pump, gravity feed, and quadroflow, just to get started. If you’re like us, you’re probably thinking, “I don’t want to get a degree in rocket science, I just want some help painting!”

And that is one reason we like Paint Zoom. It was designed for consumers, not for building contractors. There is an excellent video on the website that shows you, step by step, exactly how to use it. The user manual is clear, concise, and in easy to understand, non-technical English.

Paint Zoom claims to be great for walls, but where it seems like it would really shine is painting the tough stuff. Some things that come to mind include louvered doors, crown molding, cement block basement walls, stucco, lattice, fences, railings, and furniture. Anything with an irregular surface is something spray painters were designed to do better than a brush or roller.

Most spray paint users say they use approximately 50% less paint than they do using brushes and rollers. This is a fact that not all amateur painters know. Obviously, this can add up to big savings.

Paint Zoom is very lightweight and has a shoulder strap for easy portability and usability. There are no long, heavy hoses to drag around.

Unlike some do-it-yourself paint guns, this one seems to be built for the long haul. It has an industrial strength 650 watt motor. This translates to just under 1 horsepower. To buy a paint sprayer with a motor this powerful, you would expect to pay in the range of $350.

While researching this product, we found reviews by Paint Zoom customers on third party sites like home improvement blogs and forums such as those below:

We did come across some negative comments, mainly from people who dismissed the product as no good, even though they admitted to not having tried it! Perhaps they’re remembering older versions of spray painters they used that were heavy, awkward and hard to set up. It may be just hard for them to believe that things could be easier. Granted, it’s not an unwieldy macho machine, and that’s one of the things we like best about it.

Hi Tony, The manufacturer instructions recommend holding the sprayer approximately 12 inches from the surface you are spraying so I doubt the overspray would draft to your neighbor’s house. You are a very good neighbor to be concerned! Since you are clearly a careful consumer (the smartest kind!) you might want to look at Paint Zoom’s user manual. You can download it from the Paint Zoom site – you’ll see a tab on top that says “manual”. I hope this helps and good luck with your home improvement projects!

I am very interested in this tool. I am a tool nut and anything that could make painting fun and easier I am sure I will love it. I need to spray the outside of my house. I remember the old sprayers use to make a substantial amount of overspray. There use to be complaints about the overspray going on other people houses and cars. Is this true of this sprayer. How close should the gun be to the outside wall to hopefully eliminate this problem? When I watch the commercial about this tool they show the lady painting a fence and the overspray is blowing over and between the fence parts. Our housed are pretty far apart and I really do not think this should be a problem. But I see noone addressing this old problem. Please let me know because I am ready to purchase this tool and I think this info will really ease my mind and help me make this decision.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Hi Anna, No, Paint Zoom uses a compressed air reservoir system. Generally airless sprayers are more expensive. A quick look on Amazon will show the least expensive airless gun is over $200.

Hi Jerry, That is a great question! Yes, you can use it to paint ceilings. Its always best to spray paint two fine coats rather than one heavier coat. If you tried to apply too much paint at a time it could drip – but that goes for painting any surface with any method of painting. My dad was a professional painter, so I learned a lot about painting from him. :)

  6. Jerry says:

None of the Ads say if you can use the Paint Zoom for the ceiling. Can you or will paint spray down on you?
    Thanks
